POPCOM signs MOU with gov’t school

BUENAVISTA, Agusan del Norte --  The Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) Caraga and Bilay National High School (NHS) in Butuan City signed a memorandum of understanding on the implementation of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) as among the strategies of the Philippine Population and Development Program (PPDP), specifically on the Adolescent Health and Development (AHD) – as program thrust which seeks to prevent teenage pregnancies.

The MOU aims to foster a more comprehensive provision of health and development interventions for the students of Bilay National High School. The regional office of POPCOM, on one hand, ensures provision of technical  and logistical support during the implementation of various adolescent sexual and reproductive health initiatives in said school.

“POPCOM Caraga is very grateful to Bilay NHS for its continued commitment to adolescent development and empowerment in response to one of the government’s dilemma – teenage pregnancy. Bilay NHS has taken a leading role in supporting the government by shaping the future of our young people through CSE, which is crucial for us in the government to achieve our mission and empower the lives of one of the most vulnerable sectors in the community.” Director Alexander A. Makinano, POPCOM Caraga

In a related development, POPCOM Caraga entered into similar pact with Agusan National High School – Senior High School and Ampayon National High School, recently. (May ann O. Escobal, POPCOM Caraga/PIA Agusan del Norte)
