PHO-AgSur joins DRRM-H Orientation-Workshop for Hospitals

AGUSAN DEL SUR -- Pursuant to Department of Health (DOH) Administrative Order No. 2019 – 0046, the National Policy on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Health (DRRM-H) requires the institutionalization of a functional DRRM-H system in the Province/City-Wide Health Systems which aims to achieve the three DRRM-H goals, namely: (1) uninterrupted delivery of population-based health services; (2) avert preventable morbidities and mortalities secondary to emergencies and disasters; and (3) ensure that no disease outbreaks occur during calamities.

The Provincial Health Office of Agusan del Sur, in coordination with the DOH – Center for Health Development (CHD) Caraga, conducted a two-day Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Health (DRRM-H) Orientation and Workshop for Hospitals held at Grand Palace Hotel, Butuan City.

A total of seven health facilities were represented by their personnel for the said event. Dr. Jacqueline Frances F. Momville and Dr. Elmore B. Lumpay, joined the event and actively participated by the Chief of Hospitals together with their DRRM-H Program Management Teams.

The said activity wanted to enhance capacities and to strengthen the preparedness measures of health institutions to ensure continuous delivery of hospital services even in emergencies and disasters.

During the 2-day activity, the following highlights were noted:

1. Discussed the key features and importance of having a functional DRRM-H system;

2. Participants were able to assess hazards, risks and vulnerabilities affecting their hospitals;

3. Participants were able to identify strategies and activities that needs to be prioritized in order to solve the gaps/weaknesses identified; and

4. Discussed agreements and ways forward to ensure forward progress of the DRRM-H institutionalization in all hospitals.

Moreover, the direction of the program for CY 2023-2025 focuses on policy development, providing technical assistance to LGUs and capacity development of health emergency response teams. These strategies are aligned with the vision of the Provincial Health Office DRRM-H Program, and that is: “AGUSAN DEL SUR: Model for Community Empowerment and Health Resilience.” (PHO-Agusan del Sur/PIA-Agusan del Sur)
