MANDALUYONG CITY -- The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) joined forces with the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) and Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) to support the recovery of 1,550 families affected by Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (internationally known as Nalgae) in Aklan, Capiz, Antique, and Maguindanao.
The three organizations distributed livelihood assistance and food packs valued at over P3 million to help rebuild livelihood assets and address their nutritional needs.
PRC Aklan Chapter and PRC Cotabato - Maguindanao Chapter together with the QRCS and QFFD delegates visited and distributed food packs to 650 families in Libacao, Aklan, and Upi, Maguindanao, including those living in PRC’s Tent City on 30 May and 3 June, respectively.
While, on 1 June, 129 families in Sigma, Capiz received food packs and livelihood grants of P10,000 per household. The remaining families will receive the same recovery assistance on June 15 and 16.
As part of the collaboration, the QRCS and QFFD will also provide a food truck and a water tanker to PRC. Secretary General Dr. Gwen Pang said that the donated equipment may be pre-positioned accordingly in regions needing support due to recent disasters.
The PRC has already provided P41.5 million worth of humanitarian aid to the provinces impacted by Paeng since October 2022. (PRC)
