Jainin's Cakes and Pastries: A sweet success story of culinary creativity, technological advancement

SIQUIJOR, October 2, 2023 -- In the heart of Siquijor, a tale of transformation and innovation unfolds. Jainin's Cakes and Pastries, a local bakery, has been crafting culinary magic for the past few years.

Their journey to success is a testament to the power of pursuing one’s passion and using technological advancements, notably through the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) initiated by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Siquijor.

During the recently concluded 2023 Central Visayas Regional Science and Technology Week (CV RSTW), Jainin's Cakes and Pastries stood tall as the Best SETUP Implementor for the Province of Siquijor. It was a recognition of their dedication to improving their products and services through technology upgrading.

With the support of DOST SETUP, the bakery has experienced significant growth and innovation, resulting in the opening of its third branch, strategically located at Baluarte St., Poblacion, Siquijor, Siquijor.

Situated within walking distance from the Siquijor Port and the iconic "Welcome to Siquijor" landmark in front of the St. Francis of Assisi Church, this new location is poised to cater to the  influx of tourists and locals alike.

Josephine Chan, the proprietor of Jainin's Cakes and Pastries, expressed her gratitude for the support she received from DOST. "Our partnership with DOST has been instrumental in our journey. We have been able to expand our business, employ more staff, and serve our customers better. This third branch marks another milestone in our journey," she said.

DOST Siquijor Provincial S&T Director Engr. Mario de la Peńa, in response, said "it's an honour to be a part of the growth story of Jainin's Cakes and Pastries. We believe in the potential of our local enterprises, and its success demonstrates how technology can elevate local businesses."

Under the DOST SETUP, Jainin's Cakes and Pastries received support ranging from equipment modernization to product development. One notable partnership was with the DOST- Food and Nutrition Research Institute. The bakery became a licensee of the DOST-FNRI's enhanced nutribun, showcasing their commitment to offering nutritious options to the community.

As Jainin's Cakes and Pastries continues to rise, their story serves as an inspiration for other local businesses in Siquijor and beyond. It demonstrates the transformative power of technology and the invaluable role of government agencies like DOST in nurturing innovation at the grassroots level. It is a testament to what collaboration and innovation can achieve, one delicious treat at a time. (Engr. Reinhold Jek Y.
