MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA)–As Police Regional Office (PRO)-10 commemorates its 122nd year of police service, PRO-10 Chief PBGen Lawrence B. Coop highlighted the success of the local law enforcement, stating that from January to July 2023, the region’s total crime volume of 8,667 decreased significantly by 5.77 percent, or 531 incidents, from the same period in 2018, when it was 9,198.
Aside from the said accomplishments, PRO-10 takes pride in being a consistent frontrunner in crime reduction as it saw a 3.54 percent decrease in crimes under eight focus crime and 2,420 anti-illegal drugs operations conducted that resulted in 2,696 drug personalities arrested and 1,539 drug cases filed in court.
In addition to the anti-illegal drug operations, PRO-10 seized 8,539 grams of shabu and 23,567 grams of marijuana with a total street value of P60,900,007.80.
Out of 1,866 drug-affected barangays in Northern Mindanao, 1,462 were drug-cleared.
“PRO-10 was scored as highly satisfied by the 7,430 respondents in a study by the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines for the first semester of 2023 regarding trust, respect, and community satisfaction with police service. Likewise, PRO-10 received ratings of 91% on trust, 92% on respect, 89% on safety, and 93% on satisfaction from 1,200 respondents in a separate study done by the Mindanao Development Authority for the second quarter of 2023,” Coop shared.
PRO-10 also arrested 1,321 most wanted persons, one most wanted person with a reward, and 3,574 other perpetrators.
Aside from that, 1,313 persons were arrested for illegal gambling, P395,000 bet money was confiscated, and 55 cases were filed in court.
Further strengthening their campaign against the Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs), the police chief said they arrested 46 CTG members, facilitated the surrender of 172 former rebels, and recovered 111 assorted high-powered firearms, 144 ammunition, and six explosives. By conducting 856,733 operations to keep the streets free of stray weapons, PRO-10 was able to make 348 arrests, seize 882 weapons, turn in 673 weapons for safekeeping, and file 234 court proceedings.
PGen. Benjamin Acorda Jr., Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, and Cagayan de Oro City Second District Representative Rufus Rodriguez, who graced the occasion, hailed and commended PRO-10 for all its successes. Despite all of the accomplishments the police have had, they vowed that their mission to protect the community and maintain law and order will never end.
The PNP chief said that despite the challenges, they will forge ahead and be steadfast in their commitment to serving and protecting. (JAKA/PIA10)
