PRO5 welcomes new acting regional director

LEGAZPI CITY (PIA) — The Police Regional Office 5 welcomed Police Brigadier General Andre Perez Dizon as  acting regional director following the promotion and transfer of Police Brigadier General Westrimundo Obinque to Camp Crame for his new position as the director for research and development.

The turn-over ceremony was held Tuesday, Dec. 19 at the Camp General Simeon A. Ola in Legazpi City.

A native of Prieto Diaz in Sorsogon province, Dizon, aged 53, is the 42nd Regional Director of the PRO5. He is a member of the SANDIGAN class of 1994.

During the turn over ceremony, various accomplishments of Obinque were presented through an audio visual presentation. These include the conduct of 771 operations against illegal drugs that lead to the arrests of 833 offenders and the confiscation of illegal drugs amounting to P60,432,224.08 with 1, 296 cases filed in court.

Another significant accomplishment of  Obinque was the crackdown of loose firearms that lead to the confiscation  of 1,550 loose firearms in 1,414 operations with 200 persons arrested.  110 regional most wanted persons in Bicol were arrested, 79  in the provincial level, 76 – city level, 437 in the municipal level. Other than that,  3,287 other most wanted persons have also been arrested.

Obinque’s stay in Bicol region as PRO5 director also resulted  to 101 operations on anti insurgency that led to the arrest of 108 NPA rebels, 5 deaths and confiscation of 57 assorted firearms. Apart from these, General Obinque also initiated programs on community relations projects such as community dialogues, helping people in calamities, and the project Pedal para sa Kapayapaan at Kalusugan.

In his parting message, Obinque expressed his gratitude to the men and women of PRO5 for their unwavering support during his stay as regional director.

Dizon conveyed his appreciation to his superiors, colleagues, hometown friends, and family for entrusting him with the chance to serve the Bicol region. He affirmed his commitment to utilizing cyber technology in crime prevention, investigation, and resolution to uphold peace and order within the community.

He added that he will continue to implement police visibility, intelligence driven operations, community engagement and the implementation of programs under the NTF ELCAC. He said he will continue to empower police officers to be more dependable partners of the community.
