GINGOOG CITY, Misamis Oriental — Some 100 elementary students of Kianlangan Elementary School in Gingoog City received food packs, slippers, and school supplies during the Project Angel Tree gift-giving on 22 August 2024.
The activity is an initiative of Gingoog City Mayor Erick Cañosa, in collaboration with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-10 through Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Manager Jessie F. Reyes.
Mayor Cañosa, in his message, shared that his young and poor constituents were prone to child labor.
“Through this collaboration, I hope the support we provide will open wider opportunities for a brighter future, helping them earn degrees and complete their education,” he said.
DOLE-10 Misamis Oriental Provincial Field Office Chief Errol A. Natividad provided an overview of Project Angel Tree, detailing how it operates and the impact it aims to achieve. He explained how the project works and supports families in need, offering insight into its objectives and the mechanisms behind its implementation.
“Project Angel Tree is a component of the DOLE Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program, which provides an array of social services that range from food, clothing, educational assistance or school supplies, and even work and training opportunities made available by sponsors (‘angels’) to child laborers and their families,” he said.
Natividad said he is grateful for the partnership with the locals, especially in the elimination of child labor and promotion of the well-being of children. (DOLE-Misamis Oriental/IJBD/PIA-10/Misamis Oriental)
