Project Tabang: BARMM government’s bridge to deliver services to communities

PIA COTABATO CITY: Project Tabang–acronym for “Tulong Alay sa Bangsamorong Nangangailangan”– one of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) government’s flagship programs, remains to be in the forefront in bringing government services closer to the Bangsamoro people.

Created in September 2019, Project Tabang has already benefitted thousands of Bangsamoro in the areas of Maguindanao, Cotabato City, Marawi City, Tawi-Tawi, North Cotabato, and Sulu. It is a humanitarian project purposively created to alleviate the situation of Bangsamoro communities.

Unbeknownst to some, the Bangsamoro region has been exposed to multiple challenges such as armed conflict, weather disturbances, health-related shocks, and other events that affect the lives of the Bangsamoro, especially those who are vulnerable.

Given these challenges, BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Murad Ebrahim created the Project Tabang in hopes that the Bangsamoro government will reach many Bangsamoro people, especially those who are living in poverty and affected by calamities and conflicts.

“We believe that one of the best ways to introduce the government to the people is to bring it closer to them, hence, this project”, said Ebrahim during the project launch of Project Tabang in Sulu in 2020.

According to Ebrahim, Project Tabang has a unique function: to gather different ministries and offices of BARMM to provide comprehensive socio-economic services to the region.

Project Tabang partners with different ministries to ensure that approriate assistance is given to the Bangsamoro communities.

The project has three components, to wit: health, livelihood, and humanitarian services. Each component shall deal with the needs of the beneficiaries according to its specific nature.

According to the Project Tabang briefer, the health component shall deal with the delivery of immediate medical and dental needs, food and nutrition services, and other heath programs.

The livelihood component on the other hand, shall deal with the provision of livelihood opportunities, capacity building, and capitalization.

Meanwhile, the humanitarian services component shall deal with the delivery of immediate and quick response of humanitarian actions needed by the community.

With thousands of individuals benefiting from the said project, the BARMM government is committed to create more programs and projects that will help more Bangsamoro communities within and outside the region.
