SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – Public information should be engaging but credible and transparent to build trust with the audience.
This message was underscored by April Bravo, assistant regional head of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-Region 1, during the recent Project WRITES training series organized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region 1.
Bravo urged CHED employees to prioritize transparency and credibility in their public communication efforts.
Project WRITES, which stands for Writing Responsibly through Information Sessions, Training, and Engagement with Stakeholders, aims to enhance communication within higher education institutions by equipping personnel with vital media and public information skills.
Launched on February 10, the Project WRITES training series kicked off with a session on news writing led by Bravo.
The session emphasized the significance of responsible journalism and the importance of delivering accurate, fact-based reports in government communication.
Participants were trained on how to craft clear, unbiased news reports, ensuring that the information shared with the public remains accurate and structured.
Experts from Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) also shared best practices in digital media management and audience engagement strategies, focusing on content creation, visual storytelling, and building a strong institutional identity.
The training also addressed important topics such as content analytics, media ethics, and audience engagement to help CHED Region 1 ensure its communication efforts are relevant, effective, and aligned with its institutional objectives.
This initiative is designed to enhance the media skills of CHED employees, enabling them to communicate public information about higher education initiatives in a clear, accurate, and transparent manner.
The training series, which will run until March 10, also includes sessions on feature writing, designing publication materials and pages, photography, and video editing.
These workshops aim to ensure that participants are equipped to create engaging and credible content on higher education programs and policies.
Albert Subang, Education Supervisor II and a participant, highlighted the value of the training in refining CHED Region 1’s communication strategies.
“These insights empower us to effectively communicate educational initiatives, engage stakeholders, and uphold institutional credibility through well-curated content,” Subang said.
Through this initiative, CHED Region 1 aims to strengthen its stakeholder engagement and public communication, reinforcing its commitment to delivering transparent, impactful information that supports higher education initiatives. (CCMT/AMB/AIHR, PIA Region 1)
