ILOILO CITY (PIA) — A total of 125 college students hailing from the five districts of Iloilo province joined the growing roster of provincial government scholars after qualifying the Iskolar sang Iloilo Program (ISIP).
Established in 1996, ISIP is a scholarship grant that aims to support underprivileged but deserving students to pursue their college education.
Each ISIP beneficiary receives P3,500 monthly stipend, P3,000 learning resource assistance per semester, and P5,000 thesis/research allowance for graduating students.
Prior to their admission to the scholarship, the students who are enrolled in any state colleges or universities in Iloilo, underwent a rigorous selection process and were chosen based on their academic achievements and social status.
According to the Capitol release, the ISIP aligns with the strategic goal of the Iloilo provincial government under the Movement for a Robust, Progressive, Globally-Competitive, and Resilient Province of Iloilo (MoRProGRes ILOILO) which seeks to provide quality education to Ilonggos.
It was institutionalized during the administration of former Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. through Provincial Ordinance 96-20. It was sustained by Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. and was amended in 2023 through Provincial Ordinance 2023-298.
To note, ISIP has produced a total of 1,290 professionals thriving in various fields such as education, nursing, medicine, engineering, and legal, among others. (AAL/LMLE/PIA Iloilo/With reports from Iloilo Provincial Gov’t)
