BANGUED, Abra (PIA) – The Provincial Highway Patrol Team (PHPT) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) here in Abra steps up its road safety information, education, and communication activities.
PHPT-Abra Team Leader PMaj. Maria Alicia Valera shared the intensified information drives on road safety, especially among the youth aims to prevent vehicular accidents and save lives.
“Nakaka-five to six lectures kami per month. Maganda po ang aming tie-up with our schools. We have a MOA with our DepEd regarding itong pag-conduct ng lectures sa ating mga kabataan kasi mostly makikita natin na marami ang nadidisgrasya sa ating mga kabataan,” she said.
[We conduct five to six lectures per month. We have good tie-up with our schools. We have a MOA with our DepEd regarding the conduct of lectures for the youth because many of those involved in accidents are the youth.]
Aside from schools, the PHPT also conducts lectures on road safety and defensive driving with agencies and offices like the Department of Trade and Industry and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
The team leader stressed the importance of the free lectures to remind motorists of traffic regulation and land transportation laws.
“The Highway Patrol Team here in Abra is very willing to conduct lectures. Kinagagalak po namin na mabigyan ng kaalaman ang ating mga kababayan dito sa Abra para hindi po sila magulat na for example yung mga may sasakyan na pick up ay bawal po na may tao sa likod,” she explained.

Valera also reminded motorists to always follow traffic regulations, wear protective gears like helmets, and always bring necessary documents when traveling.
“Bigyan nating halaga ang ating buhay. We should always have self-discipline and kailangan po ay meron po silang disiplina sa daan po,” Valera added.

As of August 5, 2024, data from the PNP show a total of 100 vehicular incidents reported. This is higher by 37 cases as compared to the 63 vehicular accidents recorded in the same period in 2023. (JJPM-PIA CAR, Abra)
