PSA-10, Gingoog City conduct data privacy, security, and cybersecurity training

GINGOOG CITY (PIA)–To enhance data management practices and foster the responsible use of information, the Philippine Statistics Authority-Regional Statistical Services Office (PSA)-10, in coordination with the City Government of Gingoog, successfully conducted training on data privacy, security, and cybersecurity for the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) for the city’s department heads and information officers on October 17 at the Penthouse, City Hall, Gingoog City.

Attended by 58 participants, the training aimed to provide the city government’s CBMS data personnel with the fundamentals of data protection by raising their awareness of the Data Privacy Act of 2012’s key points and risk management procedures.

City Administrator Enrique Guevarra, in his message, underscored the growing importance of Data Privacy, Security, and Cybersecurity in today’s digital age, given the prevalent use of technology and the alarming increase in cybercrime. He also stressed the crucial nature of data, highlighting its vulnerability to hacking, misuse, or mishandling.

Meanwhile, City Planning and Development Coordinator Elsa Maquiling pointed out that the Data Privacy Act promotes the mental wellness of individuals, knowing that their information is being safeguarded and protected against cybercriminals.

She also encouraged active participation in the discussion to harness the power of information.

The training, led by PSA-RSSO Supervising Statistical Specialist Brenda Lynn Castro and CBMS Statistical Analyst Glenda Bazar, tackled various topics such as Data Privacy Act of 2012 for CBMS Data Turnover Orientation, Security Measures, Cybersecurity Risk Management, Responsibilities of Focal Persons and Information System Analysts or Information Technology Officers in Case of Data Breaches or Security Incidents, Remaining Activities of the 2022 CBMS, and Requirements for the 2022 CBMS Data Turnover Ceremony.

An open forum followed the discussion to clarify the participants’ inquiries.

To assess participants’ comprehension of the topic, the PSA-10 administered a pretest before the training and a post-test after.

By conducting this training, the City Government of Gingoog demonstrates its commitment to upholding data privacy and cybersecurity in its departments and community.
