PSA-10 showcases power of data visualization through inter-agency exhibits and contest

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-10 kicked off an inter-agency statistical exhibit and infographics-making contest on October 8 at LimketKai Center as part of the 35th National Statistics Month celebration. The event runs from October 8 to October 12, showcasing the vital role of data and statistics in our society and data visualization in promoting informed decision-making.

Under the theme “Advancing Data and Statistics Through Digital Transformation, A Road to an Empowered Nation,” the contest and exhibit aimed to showcase the creative and innovative ways statistics can be presented through visual aids like charts, graphs, and infographics.

Jose B. Tuason, Jr., officer-in-charge of the Civil Registration & Administrative Support Division at PSA-10, emphasized the critical role of statistics in shaping policies and driving development. He stressed that accurate and reliable data are essential for effective governance, budgeting, and planning.

“The focus of this event is to showcase the knowledge, updates, and awareness of statistics through visuals such as charts and graphics that simplify complex information, making it easy to understand trends and gain insights highly relevant to all end users,” Tuason stated.

He emphasized that decision-making and planning could fall into disorder without reliable statistics. He underscored the need for accurate data to ensure effective governance, budgeting, and policy formulation.

Tuason thanked the participating agencies, noting that their involvement reflects a commitment to transparent and responsible decision-making that ultimately benefits the Filipino people.

Ten agencies participated in the infographics contest, while three joined the exhibit. The participating agencies are the Department of Labor and Employment-10, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-Misamis Oriental, Department of Information and Communications Technology-10, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-10, Cagayan de Oro City Jail Female Dormitory, Philippine Ports Authority-Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro City, Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development-10, Civil Service Commission-10, Department of Social Welfare and Development-10, Commission on Higher Education-10, and Mines and Geosciences Bureau-10.
