ZAMBOANGA CITY, PIA – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-9 is actively working to improve the acceptance of digital national identification (IDs) for transactions such as online banking and installment payments.
During the “Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas” press briefing on July 23, PSA-9 underscored its ongoing efforts to promote the use of digital IDs.
Jenny Delos Santos, a participant during the press briefing, raised her concern about the non-acceptance of the digital national ID for home credit transactions.
Regional Director Mewchun WS. Pamaran highlighted this problem, stating, “there’s a lot actually, that is why grabe ang aming pag-advocate. We have met with banking institutions. Even the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas is releasing or issuing an advisory for all the banks to accept the ID, whether it is ePhilID, digital ID, or physical ID.”
(There’s a lot actually, which is why we are advocating strongly. We have met with banking institutions. Even the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas is releasing or issuing an advisory for all the banks to accept the ID, whether it is the ePhilID, digital ID, or physical ID.)

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has issued Memorandum No. 24-006 or the Prioritization of the Philippine Identification (PhilID) and Other Recognized Formats in the List of Acceptable Identification Documents (ID). This memorandum supports the ongoing efforts of the PSA to ensure the broad acceptance of the PhilID in physical cards or other recognized formats as a valid and sufficient proof of identity and age, subject to authentication, in all financial transactions.

Executive Order 162 s. 2022: Institutionalizing the Acceptance of the Philippine Identification or Philippine Identification System Number as Sufficient Proof of Identity and Age in All Government and Private Transactions signed by former President Rodrigo Duterte supports the PhilID as sufficient proof of identity and age in all transactions.
Jacob Shaquille Wee of PSA-9 urged citizens facing issues to report them directly to the PSA.
“If ever hindi po tinanggap ng isang institution ‘yung ID, any form of the national ID, pwede po kayong pumunta sa amin [PSA], sa tanggapan po namin sa office, and makapag-file po tayo ng complaint, para kami mismo ang magta-take actions,” Wee said.
(If an institution does not accept any form of the national ID, you can come to us [PSA], to our office, and we can file a complaint so that we can take action ourselves.)
“Kung ano po ‘yung concerned issue regarding sa non-acceptance, kami na po yung mismong pupunta sa institution,” he added.
(Whatever the issue is regarding the non-acceptance, we will be the ones to go to the institution.)
PSA is committed to resolving these issues by working with financial institutions and advocating for the recognition of digital IDs. For registered citizens who have not yet secured their digital national ID, you may access it via http://national-id.gov.ph/. (EDT/HTB/PIA9-Zamboanga del Sur)
