PSA Camiguin advances digital empowerment via PhilSys advocacy

MAMBAJAO, Camiguin (PIA)–Fostering a comprehensive and integrated system identification that accommodates the diverse needs of various government agencies, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Camiguin held PhilSys 101: PhilSys Public Advocacy on November 20.

Representatives from various national line agencies and the private sector attended the event, which highlighted the advancements made in PhilSys registrations in the province. According to the latest data from PSA-10, as of October 1, 2023, a substantial 73,781 individuals in Camiguin have successfully registered for PhilSys.

Out of this number, 33,724 have received their PhilID cards physically, while 62,745 have obtained their ePhilID online. However, 10,015 individuals, constituting 12% of the population, are yet to be registered on the island.

Breaking down the figures by town, PSA reported the delivery of 14,446 ePhilIDs to Catarman, 4,561 to Guinsiliban, 11,326 to Mahinog, 25,633 to Mambajao, and 6,743 to Sagay.

Nationally, the PhilSys registration has reached a significant milestone, with 80.8 million registrations as of September 22. Of this number, 40.2 million PhilID cards have been physically delivered, while 41.2 million have been issued with ePhilID.

For those still unregistered, the process is made convenient. Applicants can apply for an ePhilID at appt.philsys.gov.ph and download it at ephilid.philsys.gov.ph.

To ensure secure identity verification, PSA introduced PhilSys Check, which is accessible for government or business entities at verify.philsys.gov.ph through smartphones or computers. Remarkably, access to the system doesn’t require interfacing with or signing agreements with PSA. However, the consent of the PhilID or ePhilID holder is mandatory before scanning the QR code, said Mary Grace Pabillore, PSA Camiguin PhilSys focal person.

“The PhilID shall be honored and accepted, subject to authentication, in all transactions requiring proof or verification of the identity of citizens or resident aliens,” said Joy Llido, PSA Camiguin registration officer.

To protect the right use of the ID, penalties and sanctions have been set up for people who refuse to accept the PhilID, use it illegally, give false information on the PhilSys application, or misuse personal data in a way that breaks authentication and protection protocols.

“The ePhilID is not a temporary ID. It holds the same functionality and validity as the PhilID and can already be used in various transactions,” Pabillore said.

Enacted in August 2018, Republic Act No. 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, is pivotal in establishing a unified national identification system for Filipino citizens and resident aliens.

For feedback or concerns, PSA can be reached at [email protected], through their hotline at 1388, or through their Facebook page at PSAPhilSysOfficial. (RTP/PIA-10/Camiguin)
