PSA Camiguin celebrates National Statistics Month 2024

CAMIGUIN (PIA) — With the theme “Advancing Data and Statistics Through Digital  Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation,” the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Camiguin led the 35th National Statistics Month (NSM) on October 4 at Villa Paraiso Resort and Apartelle.

Attended by 24 representatives from various government agencies, the event underscored the primary objective of NSM, which is to promote, enhance, and instill nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics  across different sectors of society.

Alvin Q. Pequiro, the supervising statistical specialist, presented the 2023 full-year poverty report for the province. The 2023 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES) results, conducted in July 2023 and January 2024, form the basis of this report. He emphasized the significance of “statistical data in comprehending Camiguin’s poverty situation, stressing the practical implications of interpreting the values.”

Guest speakers from the Department of  Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Elbert Laurence L. Ligan and Johanna Zola A. Cabillo, shared their agency’s accomplishments, ongoing projects, and future plans in line  with their mandate on digital transformation. They emphasized how their programs and initiatives align closely with the theme of the  35th NSM, particularly in the digitalization of  government transactions to enhance  efficiency and transparency. 

The attendees enthusiastically participated in a lively general knowledge quiz on statistics as the event concluded.

Representatives from Camiguin  Polytechnic State College, the Civil Service Commission, the Camiguin Provincial Police Office, the Provincial Agriculture Office, and the  Department of Agrarian Reform emerged as winners.

“This lighthearted activity not only showcased the participants’ knowledge but also highlighted their engagement and  camaraderie throughout the ceremony,” said PSA Chief Statistical Specialist Francisco Galagar, Jr.

He added that the month-long celebration of National  Statistics Month will highlight the value of statistics in driving  development and progress across various sectors in the province. (PSA Camiguin/PIA-10/Camiguin)
