CAMIGUIN (PIA) — With the theme “Advancing Data and Statistics Through Digital Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation,” the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Camiguin led the 35th National Statistics Month (NSM) on October 4 at Villa Paraiso Resort and Apartelle.
Attended by 24 representatives from various government agencies, the event underscored the primary objective of NSM, which is to promote, enhance, and instill nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics across different sectors of society.
Alvin Q. Pequiro, the supervising statistical specialist, presented the 2023 full-year poverty report for the province. The 2023 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES) results, conducted in July 2023 and January 2024, form the basis of this report. He emphasized the significance of “statistical data in comprehending Camiguin’s poverty situation, stressing the practical implications of interpreting the values.”

Guest speakers from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Elbert Laurence L. Ligan and Johanna Zola A. Cabillo, shared their agency’s accomplishments, ongoing projects, and future plans in line with their mandate on digital transformation. They emphasized how their programs and initiatives align closely with the theme of the 35th NSM, particularly in the digitalization of government transactions to enhance efficiency and transparency.
The attendees enthusiastically participated in a lively general knowledge quiz on statistics as the event concluded.
Representatives from Camiguin Polytechnic State College, the Civil Service Commission, the Camiguin Provincial Police Office, the Provincial Agriculture Office, and the Department of Agrarian Reform emerged as winners.
“This lighthearted activity not only showcased the participants’ knowledge but also highlighted their engagement and camaraderie throughout the ceremony,” said PSA Chief Statistical Specialist Francisco Galagar, Jr.
He added that the month-long celebration of National Statistics Month will highlight the value of statistics in driving development and progress across various sectors in the province. (PSA Camiguin/PIA-10/Camiguin)
