CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Oriental Mindoro Provincial Office is currently conducting the Quarterly Inland Fisheries Survey (QIFS) and Quarterly Aquaculture Fisheries Survey (QAqS) for the first quarter of 2023 which started on March 13 until March 24, covering the municipalities of Naujan, Socorro, Victoria, and the City of Calapan.
Ten statistical researchers have been deployed to get data from the 123 sample households for the QIFS and 339 sample aquafarms for the QAqS in Oriental Mindoro.
According to Chief Statistical Specialist Efren C. Armonia, the QIFS data gathered will be treated using a two-stage probability proportional to size sampling design whereas the QAqS will employ the single-stage probability proportional to size (pps) method of sample selection.
“The Quarterly Fisheries Survey aims to generate volume and value of fisheries production by species and quarter at the provincial, regional, and national levels. Aside from its input to the policy-making and program implementation, the statistics will also provide an estimation of the performance of the agriculture sector in the province,” said Armonia.
Armonia said the Provincial Focal Persons (PFP) for the said surveys are allotted days to supervise inland fishing households and aquafarms in order to confirm that all operational concepts are strictly followed, thereby ensuring the reliability and accuracy of collected data.
In this conduct of the survey, Armonia further said that their Agency is committed to delivering relevant and reliable statistics from time to time. Hence, they are encouraging the public, especially the sample households, to actively participate in this undertaking being conducted by the PSA.
PSA also assured that all collected personal information will be processed in accordance with the law and other issuances and will be dealt with, with the utmost confidentiality. (LTC/PIA/PSA-OrMin)
