PSA conducts 4th Qtr. 2023 redesigned Crops Production Survey in OrMin

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Oriental Mindoro recently conducted a redesigned Crops Production Survey (CrPS) covering the fourth quarter of 2023 in accordance with Republic Act No. 10625 or the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013, which authorizes the PSA to prepare and conduct periodic censuses on various sectors of the economy and Executive Order No. 352 mandating the conduct of the survey every quarter.

Eight statistical researchers (SRs) were involved in the conduct of the Redesigned Crops Production Survey (CrPS) from November 23 to December 1, 2023. The collected data will undergo computerized data processing.

The CrPS is one of the major agricultural surveys conducted by the PSA. This survey aims to estimate the volume of production, the area planted/harvested, the number of bearing trees/hills/vines, and farmgate prices for crops other than palay and corn at the national and sub-national levels.

More importantly, the production and farmgate prices generated from the survey are direct inputs to the Value of Production in Philippine Agriculture and Fisheries and the preparation of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The survey likewise supports the data needs of planners, policy and decision-makers, and other stakeholders in the agriculture sector particularly the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Agriculture (DA), and its attached agencies such as the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) and Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries (PCAF), and the general public.

In the Province of Oriental Mindoro, 602 sample households and three sample establishments were visited and interviewed using the Computer-Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) during the field operation.
