CALAMBA CITY (PIA) – The region’s economic leaders are pushing for data-driven and technology-based governance to drive sustainable progress.

In her message during the National Statistics Month opening ceremony last October 4, Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) IV-A Director Charito Armonia stressed the importance of data and digitalization in addressing various issues in Calabarzon’s five provinces.

“Statistics are not mere figures on paper or screens, they represent lives, livelihoods, and real-world issues that we face everyday. Statistics are a fundamental tool for decision-making and progress,” Armonia said.

“As we join the nation in celebrating the importance of statistics, we are reminded of how essential data is in shaping the future of our region, and driving sustainable progress across our five provinces,” she added.

The Calabarzon region, which houses some of the country’s largest industrial hubs and multinational companies, has begun adopting digital tools governance towards more effective delivery of public services concerning production, education, and more.

The PSA chief added: “In CALABARZON, the use of digital tools and systems has already begun to change the way we approach data. Local government units are leveraging digital platforms for e-governance, streamlining public services, and improving the speed and accuracy of decision-making. “

Timely data concerning the indicators of the Regional Development Plan (RDP) has helped policymakers devise plans to address key regional issues, according to the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) IV-A.

Carmel Matabang, NEDA IV-A Director, has emphasized the benefits of embracing technology to improve accuracy, timeliness, and accessibility to data which are critical in devising programs towards inclusive regional development.

“As we realize our targets under the Regional Development Plan, the importance of data becomes clear. Accurate and timely statistics allow us to identify areas that require utmost attention and resources to ensure that no one is left behind,”

Matabang added:“Statistics provides us with a compass for navigating development, allowing us to measure key indicators such as economic performance, social welfare, environmental sustainability, and more.”

Celebrated annually since 1990, National Statistics Month aims to promote, enhance, and instill nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society and gather public support in upgrading the quality and standard of statistics in the country.
