PSA educates Antique youth on birth Registration, PhilSys

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) conducted talks on civil registration in 13 secondary schools in Antique to celebrate Civil Registration Month (CRM).

PSA Antique information officer Patricia Dhianne Ga-an said the initiative aimed to inform and educate students about the provisions of Civil Registration Laws, Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, and other related laws, which are crucial in safeguarding the rights and privileges of every Filipino citizen.

The schools covered are in the towns of Anini-y, Tobias Fornier, Hamtic, Sibalom and San Remigio.

This activity also aims to empower students and help them avoid potential issues related to incorrect documentation or procedural mistakes in the future.

Provincial Statistics Officer Randy M. Tacogdoy led the discussions and shared essential information on the importance of birth registration for securing legal rights and accessing government services.

He emphasized the importance of timely registration of vital events such as birth, which should be registered within 30 days of occurrence, and other important civil registration rules.

Birth Registration coordinator Ember Grace F. Dioso explained how the Birth Registration Assistance Project (BRAP) assists individuals with late birth registration for free, as well as with free issuance of a PSA copy of a certificate of live birth, especially in remote areas and for underprivileged beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, Ga-an discussed the advantages of the PhilSys, or National ID System, as a unified, secure identification system that simplifies access to various services. (AGP/PSM/PIA Antique with reports from PDG/PSA)
