CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) underscored its commitment to promoting statistical literacy and data-driven innovation among the youth during the Regional Data Festival-Mindanao Cluster.
The festival, held on October 14-15, celebrated the PSA’s 11th anniversary and the 35th National Statistics Month, gathered students and young professionals from across Mindanao.
OIC-Deputy National Statistician Minerva Eloisa P. Esquivias emphasized the event’s significance in shaping the future leaders of the Philippines.
“The Regional Data Festival is not just an event. It is a stepping stone for aspiring students and young professionals to build essential skills for the future. Unlike other PSA initiatives, this is specifically tailored to aspiring students and young professionals to enhance their data skills, broaden their knowledge, and connect with industry experts,” she said.
The festival’s theme, “Harnessing the Power of Data and Statistics for a Future-Ready Youth,” emphasized the integral importance of data literacy in today’s digital age.
“Data has become integral to our daily lives, shaping how we communicate and conduct business through the internet in digital tools, smart devices, and other advanced technologies,” Esquivias said.
Cagayan de Oro City 2nd District Representative Rufus B. Rodriguez reaffirmed the message, emphasizing the critical role of data and statistics in fostering advancements across various sectors.
“As future leaders and change-makers of our nation, the power to drive positive change rests firmly in our youth’s hands. This festival serves as a reminder of the urgent need to cultivate a deep appreciation of research, data, and statistics. These tools are vital in promoting advancements across various sectors–health, education, employment, and agriculture,” he said.
PSA-10 Regional Director Janith Aves encouraged attendees to view the festival as a starting point for their journey toward curiosity, ambition, and responsible data use.
“If we harness the power of data and statistics, we can build a future where Filipino youth are not just ready for tomorrow but are leaders and trailblazers shaping a better, brighter, and data-driven Philippines.” (APB/PIA-10)
