IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay (PIA) — Over 100 Sibugaynons gathered at the Western Mindanao State University Olutanga and Mabuhay campuses to participate in the recent Data and Information Dissemination Forum of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), raising awareness about its services and increasing visibility among stakeholders.
The forum helped build an informed and data-literate citizenry by engaging directly with students and educators, fostering a better understanding of government initiatives.
The forum covered key topics such as the national ID system, updates on census and survey results, and civil registration, highlighting that accurate civil registration is essential for reliable national data and the protection of individuals’ rights.
Gerry Lao-lao, registration officer, stressed the importance of maintaining accurate civil records, noting that they are vital in ensuring legal identity and access to essential services.
“Civil registry documents are not only personal records—they are legal proofs that help define a citizen’s rights and identity,” he said.
Participants gained practical knowledge through a live demonstration on generating and verifying digital national IDs via PSA’s authentication systems, which helped them better understand and use the agency’s digital platforms.
The forum not only educated attendees about the significance of accurate civil records but also empowered them with the tools to navigate modern data systems like the national ID.
As the PSA continues its efforts to inform and engage communities, it is paving the way for a more data-literate, empowered public capable of making informed decisions based on reliable information. (EDT/RBI/PIA9-Zamboanga Sibugay)
