PSA geotags facilities, government projects in Quirino

CABARROGUIS, Quirino (PIA) – The Philippine Statistics Authority–Quirino Provincial Statistical Office (PSA-Quirino) has completed the geotagging of service facilities and government projects across the province as part of the 2024 Census of Population and Community-Based Monitoring System (POPCEN-CBMS).

The geotagging initiative aims to provide accurate and up-to-date data on infrastructure to enhance public service delivery, guide infrastructure development, and shape policies that directly benefit communities in Quirino.

Chief Statistical Specialist Engr. Cherry Grace D. Agustin, along with Supervising Statistical Specialist Karen T. Fernandez, Senior Statistical Specialist and focal person Marison S. Lomboy, and Information Systems Analyst II Psyche R. Villanueva, led the supervision of six map data collectors (MDCs) and two team supervisors (TSs) deployed across the province’s six municipalities.

Agustin emphasized the importance of ensuring the accuracy, completeness and efficiency of the geotagging process, especially in the face of operational challenges encountered in the field.

“One of the most significant challenges during the activity was reaching remote and hard-to-access barangays, which posed logistical difficulties for the teams,” Agustin said.

She added that unpredictable weather, rugged terrain, and limited accessibility made the task even more demanding.

“Despite these obstacles, the MDCs and TSs remained steadfast in their mission. They conducted actual site visits to verify, document and geotag both new and existing service facilities and government projects in every barangay,” she said, noting that their dedication ensured the accuracy and timeliness of the data gathered.

Agustin expressed appreciation for the field personnel’s hard work and commitment throughout the project. She also acknowledged the vital cooperation of local government units, community leaders and residents, whose support helped facilitate the smooth implementation of the geotagging efforts.

“With the completion of this initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to deliver reliable, data-driven insights that support national and local development,” Agustin said. (ALM/TCB/PIA-2, Quirino)
