PSA Ilocos calls for public support for 2024 population census

SAN FERNANDO City, La Union (PIA) — The Philippine Statistics Authority-Regional Statistical Services Office 1 (PSA-RSSO1) urges the support and cooperation of the public in the conduct of the 2024 Census of Population (POPCEN) and Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) which was recently launched this month.

The POPCEN-CBMS takes place every three years and aims to gather comprehensive data about the country’s population and living conditions to further create policies and programs especially developmental and poverty alleviation.

The PSA also emphasizes the safety and vigilance of the respondents during data collection.

To avoid getting scammed, PSA advises the public that enumerators will be identifiable by their uniforms featuring the CBMS logo and an identification card signed by Claire Dennis Mapa, national statistician and civil registrar general.

Enumerators will never ask for bank account numbers, security pins, or offer any other services, especially when requesting payment.

During a “Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas” episode with PSA Ilocos Region, Lawyer Sheila O. De Guzman, regional director, highlighted the need for full participation of individuals and families in the conduct of the census. She also urged the public to clarify the questions if unclear to ensure accuracy of data.

“Magbigay ng tama na sagot sa abot ng kanilang makakaya. Ito ay upang matiyak na ang mga resulta ng survey ay sumasalamin sa katotohanan at ginagamit ito sa paggawa ng mga polisiya, plano, at programa ng pamahalaang lokal at nasyonal,” De Guzman said.

(Please answer as truthfully as possible. This is to ensure that the survey results are accurate and can be used to inform policy making, planning, and programming at the local and national levels.)

Meanwhile, The PSA has mobilized a total of 3,252 enumerators across the Ilocos region to conduct the census, with 580 team supervisors and 152 census area supervisors.

The following enumerators and team supervisors are deployed in the four provinces of the region:

  • Ilocos Norte: 433 enumerators, 81 team supervisors, and 21 census area supervisors;
  • Ilocos Sur: 428 enumerators, 81 team supervisors, and 31 census area supervisors;
  • La Union: 675 enumerators, 119 team supervisors, and 29 census area supervisors;
  • Pangasinan: With the largest deployment, the province has 1,716 enumerators, 299 team supervisors, and 71 census area supervisors.

The POPCEN-CBMS will run until September 15. (MJTAB/REB/PIA Region 1)
