TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) – – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Region 2 stressed that the Philippine Identification (PhilID) is the primary ID of every Filipino citizen.
Officer-in-Charge Girme M. Bayucan said they received some complaints that there are entities that do not acknowledge the national ID as it does not bear the signature specimen of the holder.
He explained that entities should accept the PhilID as a sufficient document for their identification as it can be easily validated digitally as to its authenticity.
“We have a unified ID for Bagong Pilipinas. The PhilID is enough. We are looking towards a future where all entities will validate the national ID through our digital authentication service. We encourage everyone to consider the PhilID as the primary ID,” Bacyucan said.
With the digital authentication service, he said there’s no need for a signature printed on the ID cards because the PhilID already includes the unique identity of a person such as an iris scan and fingerprints that serve as the digital identification of a person.
Currently, Bayucan said there were over 3 million individuals registered in the PhilSys in Cagayan.
“There were more than two million physical IDs delivered in Region 2 and 1.4 million electronic and paper IDs issued,” he said.
With the assistance of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), digital IDs have also been introduced and are already accessible to the public through mobile phones and computers with internet access.
“Just like any format of national ID, the digital PhilID can be presented as valid and sufficient proof of identity in various transactions with government offices and private institutions,” Bayucan said. (OTB/MFJ/PIA Region 2)
