SIQUIJOR, Siquijor (PIA) — The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has rolled out the 2024 Census of Population (POPCEN) and Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) in the province of Siquijor.
POPCEN and CBMS aim to gather accurate and significant information to help improve the lives of people and communities through effective government planning and policy-making.
These systems aim to identify the needs of the population and provide appropriate solutions, enabling local government units (LGUs) and other agencies to offer assistance based on the necessary information for accurate policy-making, resource allocation, budget prioritization, and government projects.
PSA statistical specialist II Eric L. Balios explained that one of the objectives of CBMS is to provide precise and concrete data to help those who are in need.
“Ang pinakatuyo sa CBMS is to alleviate poverty and economic development,” said Balios.
(The primary aim of CBMS is to alleviate poverty and promote economic development.)
PSA statistical specialist II Rosario Atay also elaborated on the significant assistance provided by CBMS and POPCEN.
“Every country needs information from residents for planning, development, and improvement prospects to enhance the quality of life. Effective planning relies on the use of reliable, updated, accurate, complete, and detailed information that allows the public and private sectors to plan for better services, improve the quality of life, and address existing problems,” said Atay.
Siquijor province has 106 field interviewers, with 29 from the town of Siquijor, 19 from San Juan, 23 from Lazi, 14 from Maria, 7 from Enrique Villanueva, and 14 from Larena.
They will conduct the interviews and house-to-house visits during the enumeration period.
“The enumeration period will run for a period of 55 days but the actual number of days depends on the size of the barangay assigned to each of the field personnel,” said PSA statistical specialist II Rizalyn Teodora G. Postrado.
However, she added that the precise number of days will depend on how big the barangay is that each field worker has been assigned to.
Census Area supervisors Irene Duhaylungsod and Jhesyl Mae Ynot encouraged the public to support the census by providing accurate, truthful, and complete information and responses during their house-to-house visits to collect data and information.
“Manghinaot mi sa atong tagsa-tagsa ka panimalay nga unta sa mga enumerators nga manuktok kaninyo, hinaut nga mokooperar kamo para maghatag sa tarong ug sakto nga datos,” said Ynot.
(We hope that each household will cooperate with the enumerators when they knock on your doors, providing accurate and correct data.)
“Bason kami ang instrumento nga makatabang diri sa atong probinsya sa Siquijor,” added Duhaylungsod.
(Hopefully, we will be the instruments that can help our province of Siquijor.) (CAG/PIA7 Siquijor)
