PSA-Sibugay starts national ID registration for young children

IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay (PIA) – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Zamboanga Sibugay recently expanded the National ID registration to include children aged 4 years old and below, ensuring all Filipinos, including minors, have access to a unified identification system for government services and benefits.

Under the new guidelines, newborns and young children can now be registered, with their National ID number linked to a parent or guardian. This move enhances inclusivity and streamlines access to essential government programs, particularly for beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

Ajirah Suminggal, a mother from Titay town, registered her two-month-old son, emphasizing that registration was necessary to avail of 4Ps benefits.

“I registered my child because it is really necessary. We are part of the 4Ps, and we were told that this registration is required to avail of the 4Ps benefits,” Suminggal said.

To register a child, a parent or guardian who is already NID-registered must accompany them. Supporting documents such as a PSA-issued birth certificate, a Philippine passport, or other official records are required to validate demographic information.

Once validated, the child’s front-facing photograph will be captured for the National ID. Full biometric data, including fingerprints and an iris scan, will only be collected when the child reaches five years old.

This endeavor is part of the government’s effort to improve public service accessibility and security. PSA urged parents to take advantage of this initiative to ensure their children’s inclusion in essential programs. (EDT/RBI/PIA9-Zamboanga Sibugay)
