CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Oriental Mindoro Provincial Office will conduct a survey on data collection for the Monthly Palay and Corn Situation Report (MPCSR) on May 1 to 5, 2023.
Some 140 sample households in Oriental Mindoro covering the towns of Bulalacao, Roxas, Bongabong, Gloria, Pinamalayan, and Naujan will be interviewed for the MPCSR.
The survey is conducted during the first five days of the month, in between the Palay Production Survey (PPS) rounds, specifically, in the months of February, March, May, June, August, September, and November.
PSA Chief Statistical Specialist Efren C. Armonia said the survey is in accordance with Republic Act No. 10625 or the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013, which authorizes the PSA to prepare and conduct periodic censuses on various sectors of the economy, and Executive Order No. 352 mandating the conduct of the survey every month.
“The MPCSR primarily aims to update the estimates of the current quarter based on standing crop on area and production of palay and corn across the country. Such estimates are subject to changes depending on weather conditions, inputs and outputs, prices, and other factors which contribute largely to the deviations of the actual data from the early estimates. Close monitoring of the growing conditions of the crop is deemed necessary,” said Armonia.
There were four statistical researchers (SRs) who underwent a one-day training for the said survey. Right after the collection of data, manual editing, and computerized data processing will follow, respectively.
Armonia stressed that PSA is committed to delivering relevant and reliable statistics. Hence, active participation is expected from the selected respondents in order to get accurate, relevant, and timely information that will be used by the government in policy and decision-making for the benefit of the citizenry.
