PSA to deploy over 1.5K enumerators for PopCen-CBMS in Negros Oriental

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) here is set to deploy over 1,500 enumerators, including census supervisors, across the province for the data collection of population and the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) on July 15.

In a Kapihan sa PIA forum, PSA provincial head Engr. Ariel Fortuito emphasized the importance of cooperation and support for the successful implementation of this year’s PopCen-CBMS.

Fortuito reminded the public that refusal to take part in the data collection is punishable under Republic Act 10625.

Through this survey, the PSA aims to update and collect accurate data on target beneficiaries for social protection programs, number of eligible voters, and local government units’ shares in national tax allocation.

With the tagline, “Sa POPCEN at CBMS Kasama Ka Sa Pag-Unlad Tungo sa Makabagong Pilipinas,” the statistical surveys will start from July 15 until Sept. 16, 2024.

“The data generated by these surveys are important for government planners and will be used to determine eligible recipients of government aid,” said Fortuito.

Both surveys have been integrated into one to address poverty alleviation and help identify vulnerable sectors.

“The census of population is one of the huge activities of PSA since this is throughout the country, meaning all barangays are surveyed house-to-house. Likewise, the CBMS is also a huge activity, but this time around, it is being integrated with the census of population,” said Fortuito.

The PSA official also appealed to residents in subdivisions as well as gated homes or villages to receive the enumerators and “don’t let your dogs welcome them.”

Fortuito assured the public that all enumerators are trained and legitimate.

He, however, said it is expected for the public to have trust issues due to the prevalence of scammers, so the enumerators will pay courtesy visits first to the Punong Barangay in the area.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed PSA to conduct a census simultaneously with CBMS to determine the updated list of beneficiaries enhance the responsiveness and effectiveness of government anti-poverty and social protection programs.
