MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA)–Honing further the skills of the Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) learners, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Misamis Oriental Provincial Office held its 2023 Provincial Skills Competition, July 14.
Embedded in the TESDA Act of 1994, particularly in Section 30, the skills competition aims to promote skills excellence and provides opportunities for learners to demonstrate their competencies in TVET.
During the competition, eight schools competed against each other to determine who is the best in the fields of cooking, wall and floor tiling, automotive technology, electrical installation, fashion technology, structured cabling, IT network system administration, mechatronics, electronics, and carpentry; wherein the winner will then represent the province of Misamis Oriental in the upcoming Regional Skills Competition.
The University of Science and Technology in the Southern Philippines (USTP) bagged the most number of gold medals, winning in the fields of Mechatronics, Electronics, IT Network System Administrations, and Information Technology Cabling; followed by the Cagayan de Oro (Bugo) School of Arts and Trades with three golds in Cooking, Automobile Technology, and Wall and Floor Tiling;
Opol National Secondary Technical School, Global Mindanaw Polytechnic Inc., and Cagayan de Oro Technical Vocational Institute with one gold each for the fields of Fashion Technology, Electrical Installation, and Carpentry.
The winners in the different fields will then compete in September 2023 at the Regional Level of the competition.
With the skills level that the participants showed during the competition, the TESDA-Misamis Oriental Provincial Office hopes to bag the gold in the Regional level competition and be able to represent the region in the upcoming national level competition. (JAKA/PIA-10)
