CITY OF CALAPAN, Oriental MIndoro (PIA)  — The Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) of the Port of Calapan is set to be inaugurated in March this year making its mark as the biggest and most modern terminal in the country.

Constructed at Php 353 million by the Philippine Ports Authority, the three-storey PTB covers a land area of 2,500 sqm and designed to provide comfort and convenience to 3,500 passengers with clean and bigger rest rooms, prayer room, breastfeeding station, children playroom, clinic, elevator and escalator.

According to PPA Project Management Office – Mindoro Division Manager of Engineering Services Division, Engr. Margarito P. Dimailig, the new PTB will be a game changer for the in-bound and out-bound passengers in Oriental Mindoro as well as travellers from other provinces in Mimaropa.

Engr. Dimailig also added that majority of the PTB’s employees will be coming from other municipalities in the province and Calapan City; providing job opportunities to the locals. He also believes that the PTB will also play a major role in uplifting the tourism of the province and Mimaropa as a whole.

The PTB will also be a tourist attraction on its own; featured outside the walls of the terminal are the Pakudos visual motifs, common elements of the Mangyan arts and culture.

The project is set to be finished on the 18th of February and will be inaugurated in March.  (JJGS/PIA MIMAROPA)
