CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — A public-private partnership will enhance Northern Mindanao’s energy infrastructure with the launch of a 20.75 MW solar power project on Wednesday, August 14.
The Phividec Industrial Authority and FDC Utilities Inc. through its subsidiary FDC Green Energy Corp., held a groundbreaking ceremony in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, for the solar project named “Project Volt.”
The project involves the installation of over 35,000 monocrystalline solar panels in 18.85-hectare land to generate 32,703 kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually, enough to power up to more than 5,000 households.
Juan Eugenio L. Roxas, President and CEO of FDC Utilities Inc., noted that the project addresses the anticipated 5.5 to 7 percent annual peak demand growth in Mindanao through 2030. It also supports the country’s renewable portfolio standard (RPS) requirement, which mandates that 2.5 percent of energy demand come from renewable sources.
FDC Utilities accelerated the project by completing land development and fencing ahead of schedule, reducing construction time by 40 percent.
“Hopefully, between now, we will just count six months, and we will inaugurate,” Roxas stated.
Lawyer Joseph Donato J. Bernedo, Phividec CEO and Administrator, lauded the project as a significant step towards sustainable energy.
“Congratulations to FDC. We thank you, Phividec thanks you, and the country thanks you for your vision to make clean and green energy,” he said.
Jonathan Gotianun, chair of the Filinvest Development Corporation, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to national progress.
“We are committed to being part of the solution, not the problem,” he stated, expressing hopes that the plant’s energy output will contribute to national progress.” (APB/PIA-10)
