PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA)–The City Treasurer’s Office of Puerto Princesa urges real property owners to pay their taxes in the first quarter of 2025 to qualify for the city government’s annual 10 percent discount.
City Treasurer Jerome Padrones, in a statement, said that the payment for the first quarter started on January 2 and continued until March 31, in observance of Ordinance No. 794, Sec. 2E.05, of the city government. However, those who fail to pay their taxes will receive a two percent monthly fine per Sec. 2E.10 of the ordinance.
“Sa unang kwarter ay mayroong sampung porsyento diskwentong aplikado para lamang sa taong 2025,” he said.
In addition to the discount, the office continues to offer amnesty fines and interest on taxes for delinquent real properties covered from 2023 and below, as stipulated in Section 30 of RA No. 12001 Real Property Valuation and Assessment Reform Act (RVARA). It has extended its office hours until 8 P.M. on January 6–10 and 13–17 and until midnight on January 20.
Taxpayers can also make payments during weekends, specifically on January 4, 11, 18, and 19 from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M.
He added that they can now accommodate those who wish to pay in advance for 2026.
To decongest the volume of taxpayers for other taxes, temporary sites were also opened in the City Health Office, Puerto Princesa Underground River Booking Office, and Old and New Public Market Offices.
Meanwhile, the provincial government also encourages locals of Palawan to avail themselves of the two-year tax amnesty under RVARA to help real property taxpayers ease their obligations in paying taxes and also strengthen collections for programs, projects, and services.
In 2024, Palawan Governor Dennis Socrates signed Provincial Ordinance No. 3531, series of 2024, or Granting Tax Amnesty on Real Property Taxes and Special Levies and Real Property Covering Penalties, Surcharges, and Interest from All Unpaid Real Property Taxes in the Province of Palawan, Adopting Section 30 of Republic Act 12001.
The tax can be paid by direct payment or through an installment without any penalty or interest based on the agreed contract between the taxpayer and the government. (RG/PIA MIMAROPA-Palawan/Photo courtesy of City Information Department of Puerto Princesa Facebook Page)
