PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA) — The Commission on Elections in the MIMAROPA region entered into a memorandum of agreement with two malls in Puerto Princesa City for the conduct of the mall voting program in the May 2025 national and local elections.
Comelec Regional Election Director Gloria Ramos-Petallo said this program aims to provide convenience to voters while building an inclusive electoral system.
The program is designed to modernize the electoral system in the country, particularly for vulnerable members of society.
The offices of the commission in MIMAROPA, Puerto Princesa City and Palawan signed an agreement with SM City Puerto Princesa and NCCC Malls to cater to voters from the barangays of Mandaragat, Manggahan, Maningning and Tanglaw.
“Through the partnership, we are not only providing voters with a more convenient and comfortable voting experience but also showing that every eligible citizen has the opportunity to exercise their right to vote without unnecessary barriers,” she said.
Petallo believes that this is also a way to bring electoral services closer to the public.
Puerto Princesa City is the lone area in MIMAROPA to conduct mall voting in the May 12 midterm elections.
NCCC Malls will cater to voters from Barangay Manggahan with one clustered precinct and 754 voters; Maningning with one clustered precinct and 928 voters; and Tanglaw with two clustered precincts and 1,245 voters.
SM City Puerto Princesa will accommodate voters from two clustered precincts of Barangay Mandaragat with 1,661 voters.
Maidja Saliente, SM City Puerto Princesa mall manager, believes that the agreement also supports the shared values and collaborative efforts of participating parties in the electoral service. (RG/ PIA MIMAROPA-Palawan)
