‘Pulis sa Barangay’ bolsters peace, security in Calamba

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna (PIA) – The newly-installed Calamba police chief intends to expand the implementation of the ‘Pulis sa Barangay’ program to maintain peace and security in the city.

One of the programs of the Police Regional Office IV-A, the ‘Pulis sa Barangay’ aims to boost police presence in local communities by assigning officers to specific barangays.

Lt. Colonel Titoy Jay Cuden, Calamba PNP chief, seeks to implement a clustering of the city’s 54 barangays to facilitate a manageable approach in deploying police officers throughout the city.

“For example, neighboring upland barangays are clustered together. What our police do is they guide our tanods on what is the best approach in their barangay,” Cuden said during the Philippine Information Agency’s radio program.

Through the ‘Pulis sa Barangay,’ officers actively engage with local leaders and citizens, addressing their concerns, conducting awareness campaigns, and ensuring police presence in every barangay. This helps in the early detection and resolution of issues before they escalate, contributing to more efficient peace and order situation in the city.

Cuden said checkpoints are installed in areas where the young population usually converges to discourage them from getting involved in illegal drugs and vices.

Born and raised in Calamba, Cuden reflected on the city’s progress beginning 1998 when he first became a police officer.

He emphasized the need to strengthen law enforcement amid the city’s rapid development.

“Our city is very developed and every time the community develops, what follows is an increase in crime (rate). So that is something we address through ourprograms,” Cuden added.

The police chief also intends to maintain the Best Model City and Best Haven City awards that Calamba received last year as he believed that peace and security are factors in achieving and sustaining these accolades.

He noted that a peaceful environment encourages investors to open up businesses which, in turn, spur economic growth. (AM, CH/PIA-4A)
