QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — Residents of Quezon City can now access mental health support through the city’s Helpline 122, an initiative aimed at addressing mental health concerns and emergencies. This program is part of the observance of National Mental Health Month this October.
Mayor Joy Belmonte emphasized the importance of mental health support, stating, “There are times when we can no longer handle the problems we face in life, and we sometimes need someone to talk to. Our responders, who can be reached through hotline 122, are ready to listen until you feel better.”
The helpline offers psychosocial support and crisis intervention, available 24/7 and free of charge.
Trained operators provide emotional support and information to those in need. The city government has ensured that crisis responders received specialized training in suicide and crisis management from the National Center for Mental Health.
In addition to the helpline, Quezon City has trained over 370 barangay officials and staff in psychological first aid, equipping them to assist residents in processing traumatic experiences. City health workers are also conducting mental health awareness lectures to further educate the community.
The local government, which enacted a Mental Health Code in 2022, has established mental wellness access hubs throughout the city. These hubs are designed to assess, diagnose, and provide free prescription medication for individuals seeking mental health care.
“Taking care of our mental health is a significant part of self-care,” Belmonte added. “In Quezon City, we strive to align all programs and initiatives with the needs of every sector, ensuring that we listen to their suggestions and concerns.” (AVS/PIA-NCR)
