QC honors Manuel L. Quezon on 146th Birth Anniversary

QUEZON CITY (PIA) – The Quezon City government commemorated the 146th birth anniversary of former president Manuel L. Quezon on Monday, August 19, with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Quezon Memorial Circle.

City Mayor Joy Belmonte and Vice Mayor Gian Sotto led the event, paying tribute to Quezon’s legacy as a leader and advocate for the Filipino people.

“Thank you for your unforgettable loyalty, steadfastness, and love for our country!” Belmonte said. “May Mr. Quezon inspire each of us to be faithful to our duties as Filipinos and as public servants.”

Quezon Day is recognized as a special working holiday throughout the Philippines and a special non-working public holiday in the provinces of Quezon and Aurora, as well as in Quezon City, as established by Republic Act No. 6741, enacted in 1989.

“May his spirit of service and love for the country continue to inspire the present and future generations,” the city government stated in a Facebook post.

Manuel L. Quezon, known as the “Ama ng Wikang Pambansa” (Father of the National Language), served as the first President of the Commonwealth and as a senator. He played a pivotal role in promoting and establishing Filipino as the national language of the Philippines.

The city council and members of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) also attended the event, joining in honoring the legacy of this significant figure in Philippine history. (AVS/PIA-NCR)
