LUCENA CITY (PIA) — The Quezon Provincial Government and the Quezon Provincial Police Office (PPO) are intensifying efforts to combat cyber threats with the activation of the Quezon Provincial Cyber Response Team (QPCRT), an initiative aimed at strengthening digital security and safeguard residents from online crimes.
According to the Quezon PPO, the newly formed team will work alongside the Calabarzon Police Regional Office’s Anti-Cybercrime Unit in responding to cybercrime reports and pursuing cybercriminals.
“This milestone aims to enhance Quezon Province’s cybersecurity capabilities and improve the enforcement of cybercrime-related laws. It serves as a testament to our commitment to ensuring the safety of our province in both physical and virtual spaces,” said P/Col. Ruben Lacuesta, Quezon PPO’s provincial director during the QPCRT’s launch on Feb. 18.
Lacuesta added that the QPCRT will provide a swift response to cybercriminals’ online threats, reinforcing the police’s mission to protect citizens in the digital space.
Quezon Governor Angelina Tan welcomed the initiative, saying that it not only strengthens cybersecurity measures but also raises public awareness about cyber scams.
“Cyber scams are becoming increasingly prevalent, using technology to deceive people into giving away money or personal information. Scammers often exploit emails, social media platforms, and fake websites pretending to be reputable companies or individuals with good intentions,” Tan explained in a statement.
As part of the initiative, modern equipment such as laptops, printers, and computers were provided to QCPRT to enhance cybercrime detection efforts. Simultaneously, the newly renovated detective office will be used by the QCPRT.
Quezon PPO said this collaboration between the Quezon Provincial Government and law enforcers highlights the “growing commitment to ensuring public safety and security, particularly in the face of emerging digital threats.”
