QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — Mayor Joy Belmonte announced on Friday that Quezon City has been placed under a state of calamity in response to the devastation caused by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.
During a special session of the 22nd City Council, the resolution was made due to the severe impact of the storm, which has left over 7,000 residents seeking refuge in evacuation centers across the city.


The heavy flooding has significantly affected various neighborhoods. As of Thursday, around 1,033 families, totaling 3,887 individuals, have been safely evacuated across 18 barangays in Quezon City. The local government has established 23 evacuation centers to provide temporary shelter for those displaced.
Mayor Belmonte assured the public that recovery efforts are underway, and that the local government is mobilizing resources to assist individuals and families displaced by the flooding.
As the situation develops, Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council officials are focusing on providing immediate relief and support to residents impacted by Kristine.
The declaration of a state of calamity enables the city to access emergency funds and resources to facilitate early recovery efforts. (AVS/PIA-NCR)
