Quezon City to hold ‘Santacruzan’ for pets

QUEZON CITY (PIA) — A blend of fashion, advocacy, and furry fun awaits pet lovers this May as the Quezon City Veterinary Department rolls out “Furries de Mayo: Quezon City Fashion Feels, Wags, and Cheers!” on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Elevated Garden of the Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC).

The event is part of the city government’s continuing efforts to promote animal welfare and responsible pet ownership while fostering a pet-loving community through creative and interactive activities.

“Furries de Mayo” is designed to celebrate the unique bond between humans and animals, while offering both practical services and entertainment.

One of the key highlights of the celebration is the Santacruzan parade for pets, designed to take on the traditional Filipino procession, with animals strutting in style alongside their owners. The segment is co-hosted by the Quezon Memorial Circle Administration and Animal Kingdom Foundation, and is expected to be a crowd favorite.

A Santacruzan is a religio-historical beauty pageant held in many cities, towns, and even in small communities throughout the Philippines during the month of May. One of the most colorful aspects of this festival, the pageant depicts the finding of the True Cross by Queen Helena, mother of Constantine the Great.

Pet owners can also avail of free veterinary services during the event, courtesy of the City Veterinary Department, making it both a festive and health-focused gathering. Meanwhile, those looking to bring home a new furry companion may find the perfect match at the pet adoption activity, co-hosted by the Quezon City Animal Care and Adoption Center.

Adding to the festive atmosphere will be interactive booths, games, pet treats, and surprise giveaways from various exhibitors and sponsors, ensuring a fun-filled day for pets and people alike.

Organizers are encouraging attendees to bring their pets and come in style since it’s not just about having fun—it’s about showing how deeply Filipinos care for animals and promoting a culture of kindness toward them.

“Furries de Mayo” aligns with the city government’s broader vision of a more compassionate and inclusive community for all, including its four-legged residents.

The event is open to the public. (AVS/PIA-NCR)
