Quezon town establishes bamboo treatment facility

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) – – The local government of Quezon in Isabela, in partnership with the Base Bahay Foundation, recently inaugurated the first bamboo treatment facility in Cagayan Valley.

The facility, established at Barangay Sto. Tomas, Quezon, Isabela will serve as a treatment area for bamboo, which aims to produce quality and disaster-resilient materials for house constructions.

The project aims to strengthen the municipality’s commitment to environmental sustainability, innovation, and economic empowerment. It also aims to position Quezon town as a key player in the region’s green economy.

Quezon Mayor Jimmy Gammazon said that the LGU aims to produce affordable and quality low-cost house construction materials using treated bamboo products.

“We will continue this bamboo treatment project, seeing its big potential of bamboo industry in Quezon to increase the income and be a livelihood of Quezon residents and in the province as well,” Gammazon said.

Meanwhile, OIC DTI Provincial Director Lawyer Cyrus Restauro said that the provincial government of Isabela and DTI are collaborating on the development of indigenous products to be marketed in other parts of the country and even outside the country.

He said the DTI is supporting the initiative of LGU Quezon and the province of Isabela to make the bamboo industry in the town a viable livelihood for the local farmers.  (OTB/MGE/PIA Isabela)
