Quirino hosts first cancer mass screening

CABARROGUIS, Quirino (PIA)- – To aid early detection of cancer, the provincial government of Quirino, in collaboration with GeneLab Ph, Cagayan Valley Center for Health Development (CVCHD), and the Cancer Warrior Ph, recently conducted the first cancer mass testing, which benefited over 160 individuals from all over the province.

Cancer Warrior Ph is a program spearheaded by GeneLab Ph, a company that offers cancer screening.

Genelab Ph Chief Executive Officer Dr Sarah Co said the Cancer Warrior PH Campaign-Batch 1 was spearheaded by Governor Dakila Cua and GeneLab Ph to safeguard health by promoting and providing early detection services through cancer screening.

“The campaign employed Screening for the Presence of Tumor by Methylation and Size (SPOT-MAS), a multi-cancer early detection test which can detect common cancers such as lung, liver, breast, stomach, and colon,” Co said.

Co said SPOT-MAS is recommended for adults at elevated risk of cancer, including those aged 40 years or older, individuals with genetic mutations, or those with unhealthy habits such as smoking, alcohol consumption, or exposure to hepatitis B and C.

Meanwhile, Provincial Administrator Carmelita B. Jimenez said Governor Cua and the health team crafted the province’s cancer-free program dubbed as Defend, Advocate and eXterminate-Cailyans United in Action against cancer campaign for early detection.

Jimenez said the program, which is funded by the Department of Health under the Medical Assistance for Indigent Patients, is one of the priority health programs of Governor Cua considering that early detection can help patients save more money.

“Through the efforts of our governor and Congresswoman Midy Cua, the program has been allotted sufficient funds for those who will request for cancer screening,” Jimenez said. (OTB/TCB/PIA Quirino)
