RAISE 10 Summit unveils innovative breakthroughs for agri-aquaculture industry

MARAMAG, Bukidnon (PIA) — The Northern Mindanao Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (NOMCAARRD), in partnership with the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and Central Mindanao University (CMU), hosted the two-day Region 10 RAISE Summit in Bukidnon, showcasing innovative breakthroughs for the agri-aquaculture industry.

The Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE) Summit from January 21 to 22, 2025 connected innovators with resources, showcased achievements, and promoted partnerships to advance sustainable development.

“This summit reflects the heart of innovation in our agri-aqua sector. It marks a significant stride toward a more sustainable, resilient, and prosperous future for our region,” said Dr. Rolito G. Eballe, CMU President.

The RAISE 10 Summit aims to boost agricultural productivity, enhance food security, and stimulate economic growth by nurturing a dynamic innovation ecosystem.

Dr. Vellorimo J. Suminguit, RAISE-10 program leader, cited the summit’s focus on addressing key challenges in agri-aquaculture, including outdated farming methods, limited technology access, and knowledge-sharing gaps, while recognizing the sector’s vital role in local communities.

“We envision an innovation-driven system leveraging science and technology to overcome agriculture and aquaculture challenges. Through collaboration and knowledge exchange, we aim to deliver impactful solutions for farmers, fisherfolk, and the wider community,” he reiterated.

PCAARRD Chief Science Research Specialist Noel A. Catibog emphasized how integrating science and entrepreneurship has led to groundbreaking innovations in addressing various challenges in agriculture and aquaculture. Among these is the Nutrio Bio Fertilizer, which significantly increases sugarcane yields, providing farmers with a sustainable way to enhance productivity.

He also featured the Andali Diagnostic Test Kits, designed to detect transboundary animal diseases, offering a critical tool for safeguarding livestock health and ensuring food security.

With an inventive twist, Tilapia Ice Cream emerged as a unique food innovation, capturing attention for its novelty and potential marketability.

For aquaculture, the development of Algal Paste offers an affordable and effective feed option for milkfish hatcheries, reducing costs and improving efficiency.

Meanwhile, the Goat Meat Canning Technology (Chevon) promotes the commercialization of goat meat products, creating opportunities for local farmers to expand their market reach.

Catibog also mentioned advancements in agricultural machinery, including vacuum fryers and drone planting technologies, which provide modern solutions to enhance productivity and efficiency in farming practices.

“These innovations showcase how science-driven entrepreneurship can revolutionize the agri-aquaculture and drive progress. The RAISE Summit underscores Northern Mindanao’s commitment to innovation and sustainable development, using science and technology to build a flourishing future for its communities,“ he said.
