TABUK CITY, Kalinga (PIA) — Twenty local designers showcase Kalinga woven textiles and heirloom beads or ‘bongor’ during the ‘Rampa Kalinga: The Kalinga Treasures Fair Fashion Show’ as part of the celebration of the province’s 30th Founding Anniversary and 6th Bodong Festival.
The event was organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Kalinga, Kalinga provincial government, and the Chamber of Tabuk City and Kalinga Association of Producers Incorporated to promote the province’s woven textiles and support local designers.
“It aims to highlight the different weaving designs. It is also promotional in a way na maca-capture ‘yung market na nanood dito, pag makita nila ‘yung design, probably bibilhin nila,” said Kevin Racraquin of the DTI-Kalinga.
A total of 100 models strutted the runway set up at the Kalinga Treasures Fair to showcase formal and casual attire, bags, and accessories incorporating different Kalinga weave designs. Also featured were ‘bongor’ accessories.
Among the weaving designs showcased are the Silaksakaw, Kilamkam, Lilinga-lingaw, Sinanbituwon, Nilabey, Giniling, Niluslusong, Ginamat, Billaliktad, Nilaktob, Kila-e, Inaglis, Gittot, Sinawdern-Chilayuschus, and Tiluwe (with Pilakpak embroidery).
Local establishments that showcased their designs include Kurt’s Handicrafts; MB Collection and Fashion Accessories; Balik-Tribo Fashion Accessories; Carol Lines Ethnic and Fashion; Dagwanay Handloom; Keshziana’s Textile and Weaving Products; Taitana’s Dress Shop and Kalinga Weaving; Nessaj’s Handicrafts and Pasalubong Products; IFKA’s Weaving & Handicrafts; KINWA Etnika Handicrafts; Massalingga Musical Instruments and Handicrafts; Donsan’s Weaving; Cultura de Kalinga; YBa-ay de Kalinga; PRAJ Pasalubong Center and General Mdse.; Y-Kalinga Tapis Handloom Woven Products; Changoy Beaders Association; K-Jhada’s Beads, Kila-e Handicrafts, and Jajie’s Native fashion.
