BAGUIO CITY (PIA) – The Regional Committee on Disability Affairs (RCDA) recognizes the role of communication in bringing about development by empowering people to recognize their needs, develop knowledge and skills, and improve their attitudes and behavior.
In line with this, the RCDA and the Local Committee on Disability Affairs of Baguio City, convened for write-shop to come up with a communication plan as a guide in efforts to strengthen awareness about the rights, benefits, and opportunities for persons with disabilities.
Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-CAR), Assistant Regional Director Amelyn Cabrera shared that RCDA chaired by the DSWD aims to implement a convergent strategy for empowering persons with disabilities guided by Republic Act 7278 or Magna Carta for disabled persons, other disability-related laws, and international treaties.
The communication plan is designed to ensure that the goals of the Cordillera RCDA are effectively communicated, understood, and acted upon by the target audiences. It also aims to generate feedback necessary for the improvement of the RCDA strategies.
During the Technical Working Group meeting to discuss pre-work activities for the write-shop, Philippine Information Agency -Cordillera Regional Head Helen Tibaldo highlighted the importance of a communication plan in ensuring that the goals of a program are effectively communicated, understood, and acted upon by the target audience. She presented a draft outline based on the region’s current situation, which served as a working paper.
Th plan, once finalized, will be presented to the RCDA for further inputs and review by other members, and then it will be forwarded to the Regional Social Development Committee for approval.
