RDC VIII pushes construction of new Liloan Bridge in Southern Leyte

PALO, Leyte — The Regional Development Council VIII (RDC VIII) has endorsed the construction of the Liloan Bridge Project in Southern Leyte during the Council’s 2nd Quarter Meeting in Ormoc City on June 26.

The proposed project involves the construction of a 230-meter cable-stayed main bridge, a 146-meter approach bridge, and a 345-meter approach road.

This will replace the dilapidated Liloan Bridge built in 1977.

The construction is seen to take nearly six years at an estimated cost of PhP5.05 billion, to be financed by the Export-Import Bank of Korea (Eximbank) and the Philippine government.

A feasibility study (FS) has already been conducted by a consortium of Korean firms through a grant from the Korea Eximbank.

RDC VIII earlier endorsed the Liloan Bridge Project as one of the three bridges requested for FS under the Korea Eximbank’s grant assistance.

The Council sees the project as responsive to the Eastern Visayas Regional Development Plan (EV RDP) 2023-2028’s goal of expanding and upgrading infrastructure around the region to support rapid socioeconomic development. (Knulp Aseo, NEDA VIII)
