BANGUED, Abra (PIA) – The Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-Abra Chapter surpassed  its 2024 blood collection target with more than a thousand units of blood gathered.

“Maysa nga memorable accomplishment ti Philippine Red Cross-Abra Chapter is na-surpass po natin ang target for 2024. We had collected 1,752 units of blood,” PRC-Abra Chapter head Jhing Bernal reported during the first Monday flag raising ceremony at the Provincial Capitol on February 3, 2025.

Even with the high collection rate in 2024, Bernal encourages more Abrenians to donate blood underscoring the importance of blood donation as a life-saving service.

“Ngayong January 2025, we collected 101 units pero ang dispense rate naman is nasa 117 so kulang. Nag-augment po kami sa nearby chapters ng Philippine Red Cross,” she shared.

Bernal  is inviting  the public to a blood donation drive with the theme ‘Mula sa Puso, and Dugong Alay Ko’ on February 14, 2025 at the PRC-Abra Office in Bangued, Abra. Said activity that aims to increase blood supply in the province is also part of the Valentine’s Day celebration.

Aside from blood service, Bernal also presented the different programs of the Red Cross-Abra such as  the Department of Health and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-accredited Emergency Medical Service training and assessment, psycho-social services, and disaster risk reduction and management response among others.

Bernal shared that the PRC-Abra has been training responders and stakeholders in Abra, Kalinga, Ifugao, Baguio, Bontoc, Isabela, and Cagayan.

The PRC-Abra is made up of 15,652 volunteers from the 303 barangays in the province under the Red Cross 143. (JDP/JJMT- PIA-CAR, Abra)
