Red Cross readies for storm

QUEZON CITY (PIA) — The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has alerted and readied all its more than 100 chapters and over two million volunteers nationwide for response to the expected impact of Tropical Storm Kristine.

“The Philippine Red Cross is on high alert and actively monitoring the situation and coordinating with chapters in areas impacted by the typhoon,” it said on Oct. 22.

The group added that all its services are on high alert and are ready to respond.

“We are always ready for action,” PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon said, adding that the PRC’s Operations Center has been monitoring the tropical cyclone since Oct. 20.

The PRC said its 102 chapters and over two million volunteers nationwide are on standby for deployment.

Its rescue vehicles, food trucks, water tankers, and ambulances are also ready to be mobilized, the group said.

The PRC will be establishing first aid stations and health desks in the coming days in a number of locations to assist areas and individuals that would be adversely affected by the weather disturbance.

The PRC also ensured that its stocks of blood supply would be sufficient. (PIA DMD)
