TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) — The Cagayan Valley Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CVDDRMC) and the Local Government Unit of Buguey, Cagayan have recently conducted a pilot tsunami preparedness exercise under the Q4 National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill recently.
The activity was held at the Leron Elementary School in Barangay Leron, Buguey, which was identified by the LGU as a tsunami-prone area in the event when an earthquake occurs.
The drill, which was performed by the LGU under the leadership of Mayor Licerio M. Antiporda III, also underwent an assessment by the CVDRRMC in order to identify strengths and potential aspects for improvement. This is under the objective of ensuring the effectiveness of the LGU in responding to an actual earthquake or tsunami.

Representatives of the CVDRRMC critiqued various aspects of the drill such as Emergency Operations Center activation, search and rescue activation and deployment, medical first responders deployment, Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committees activation, and transportation and evacuation.
Council member agencies that participated in the validation were the Office of Civil Defense led by Regional Director Leon DG Rafael, Jr., who is also the CVDRRMC chairperson, the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, Department of Education, and the Philippine Information Agency.
