Remote Abra town opens P23.8-M disaster operations center building

TUBO, Abra (PIA) – The municipal government of Tubo in Abra has recently inaugurated a P23.8 million building that will house the operations center of its Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC).

Mayor Liberty Ballangan-La-os together with Office of the Civil Defense-Cordillera (OCD-CAR) Director Albert Mogol presided over the opening ceremony.

Mogol congratulated the Tubo MDRRMC for the new facility that he said will strengthen the municipality’s efforts to become resilient to disasters.

“There should be oneness and public cooperation in DRRM efforts and development initiatives in Tubo. Achieving disaster resilience requires whole-of-society efforts,” he said.

La-os expressed gratitude to the OCD for its support to the municipality’s DRRM initiatives.

She enjoined the people of Tubo to continue working together towards disaster-resilient and progressive communities.

The MDRRMC building that started construction in March 2022 was completed in two phases. Its blessing and inauguration was held during the town’s Begnas Festival with the theme ‘Nabaked ay Ili, Sarikedked di Sumyaan di Umili’ (Resilient town, the foundation for the furtherance and improvement of Tubo).

The new building will house the MDRRM Office, emergency operations team, conference halls, staff house, and reception area for guests, among others.

The Tubo MDRRMC was awarded as Fully Compliant in the recent Gawad KALASAG Seal for Excellence in DRRM and Humanitarian Assistance under the local DRRM councils and offices category. (JJPM-PIA Abra)
